Conservation project to recover the Cartagena rockrose
The Jardí Botànic of the University of Valencia is leading a conservation project to recover the Cartagena rockrose (Cistus heterophyllus subsp. carthaginensis), a species endemic to the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula in critical danger of extinction. Through a choral video with all those who are part of the action, the project, its motivations and the current advances in both in situ and ex situ conservation are explained in an informative way
The Jardí Botànic is much more than a nature area and has a multidisciplinary research team that works in a coordinated way to enable the conservation of the rockrose, an action that can serve as a model for other recovery plans in the future with more plants that are also critically endangered. The project, which began in 2020, has made positive progress in recent years, and the scientists of the Jardí Botànic give us an insight into what lies behind an action full of commitment that has already become much more than just a project.
