How to identify different pine tree species

Here at the Botanical Garden, we keep showing you how to identify the most common species you can find in Valencian territory. And it is the pine trees turn! Barks, canopies, pine cones, leaves… Eva Pastor, Head of the Culture and Communications Department at the Botanical Garden, tells us what we have to look for in a pine to recognize the Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), the maritime or cluster pine (Pinus pinaster), the stone pine (Pinus pinea), the Aleppo or Jerusalem pine (Pinus halepensis), the Austrian or black pine (Pinus nigra subsp. salzmannii) and… one more for the love of pines!
