Furthermore, the <strong>Southern live oak <\/strong>is a reference species in US cinematography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p>2.&nbsp;<em>Quercus sp.<\/em><\/p><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/quercussp-900x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/quercussp-900x1200.jpg 900w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/quercussp-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/quercussp-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/quercussp-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/quercussp.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This specimen of<strong><em> Quercus sp<\/em><\/strong>. is one of the monumental trees of the Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic with more natural growth. <strong>Marta Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong>, our agricultural engineer who is specialized in arboriculture, highlights its vitality, seniority, and structural architecture, typical of mature development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p>3. <em><strong>Quercus rotundifolia Lam<\/strong><\/em>. Neotype<\/p><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"785\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/herbari-785x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-785x1200.jpg 785w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-768x1174.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-1005x1536.jpg 1005w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-1340x2048.jpg 1340w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/herbari-scaled.jpg 1674w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jes\u00fas Riera<\/strong> and <strong>Javier Fabado<\/strong>, the conservatives of the <strong>Herbari<\/strong>, selected the <em><strong>Quercus rotundifolia Lam<\/strong><\/em>. Neotype, collected in Ragudo de l&#8217;Alt Pal\u00e0ncia. It\u2019s our &#8220;<strong>carrasca&#8221;<\/strong>, typical of extensive areas such as the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a Neotype because when Lamarck described the plant, he did it on live specimens. His description never refers to any herbarium sheet or illustration. He points out the natural growth of the specimen in Spain. Neotype means that it is selected as a nomenclatural type specimen or illustration, due to the fact that there is no original material appointed by the botanist who described the species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1111\/njb.02387\">article<\/a> where <em>Q. rotundifolia <\/em>is typified, <em>Q. ballota<\/em>, is also typified and indicates how the &#8220;carrasca&#8221; should be called depending on whether it is considered a species (<em>Q. rotundifolia<\/em>) or a subspecies (<em>Q. ilex <\/em>subsp.<em> rotundifolia<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The&nbsp;European nettle tree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/lledoner-900x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-900x1200.jpg 900w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lledoner-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic\u2019s <strong>library<\/strong>,<strong> Ana Mira<\/strong> and <strong>Javi Barrachina<\/strong>, selected the <strong>European nettle tree<\/strong> from the circular courtyard of the entrance. For them, it is very representative of their activity as a service. The strong, flexible wood of&nbsp;<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=469\">Celtis australis<\/a><\/em><\/strong> was used to make field tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Norfolk Island hibiscus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"583\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/lagunaria-1200x583.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lagunaria-1200x583.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lagunaria-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lagunaria-768x373.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lagunaria-1536x746.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lagunaria.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Norfolk Island hibiscus <\/strong>is one of the favorites of <a href=\"http:\/\/@EvaBotanic\"><strong>Eva Pastor<\/strong><\/a>, biologist and head of the Departament de Cultura i Comunicaci\u00f3 del Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic. This specimen of <a href=\"http:\/\/herbarivirtual.uib.es\/ca\/general\/1061\/especie\/lagunaria-patersonii-andrews-g-don\"><strong><em>Lagunaria patersonii<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, situated in the central corridor, is also her children\u2019s favorite one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. One of her most beloved trees is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=2788&amp;idioma=_spa&amp;idioma=_val\"><strong><em>Tipuana tipu<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, from the ancient collection. Let\u2019s observe how the sun\u2019s rays pierce the leaves, offering so many shades of greens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><p>7. <strong><em>Podocarpus macrophyllus<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"583\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/podocarpus-1200x583.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/podocarpus-1200x583.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/podocarpus-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/podocarpus-768x373.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/podocarpus-1536x747.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/podocarpus.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Elisa Caballer<\/strong>, a Departament Cultura i Comunicaci\u00f3 del Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic biologist, loves two <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=2224&amp;idioma=_eng&amp;idioma=_eng&amp;idioma=_val&amp;idioma=_val&amp;idioma=_spa&amp;idioma=_val\">Podocarpus macrophyllus<\/a><\/em><\/strong> that have grown together, forming a forest thicket. It has a Japanese origin and its small fruits, seeming &#8216;kodama&#8217; spirits, create a magical effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Chaste tree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/aloc-1200x900.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aloc-1200x900.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aloc-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aloc-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aloc-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aloc.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amparo Ibor<\/strong>, the Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic services coordinator, says that the bare Winter branches of <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=2872&amp;idioma=_spa\">Vitex agnus-castus<\/a><\/em><\/strong> seem to be waiting to sing a lullaby. It is the <strong>Chaste tree<\/strong>, a Mediterranean shrub, deciduous with multiple and curios medicinal uses, many of them, linked to gynecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Luis Blas, an arboriculture specialist, has chosen <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=2201\">Platanus orientalis<\/a><\/em><\/strong> to emphasize its good quality wood, high valued in cabinetmaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Many years ago there was a huge rumble caused by the fall of part of this <strong>Caucasian elm<\/strong>, which is still alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">11. Swamp paperbark<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/melaleuca-1200x675.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/melaleuca-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/melaleuca-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/melaleuca-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/melaleuca-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/melaleuca.jpg 1599w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Elena Estrelles<\/strong>, curator of the <strong>Banc de Germoplasma<\/strong> del Jard\u00ed Bot\u00e0nic, highlights this specimen of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=1809\">&nbsp;<em><strong>Melaleuca ericifolia<\/strong><\/em><\/a> because is the most twisted of the Jard\u00ed. The <strong>Swamp paperbark<\/strong> comes from Australia and is very salinity resistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12. The <strong>Floss silk tree<\/strong> can exceed 30 meters; it has woody and conical ulcers on the trunk and makes spectacular pink flowers. <em>Cy-yba<\/em> means mother tree in Americium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">13. Carob tree<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/g-1200x675.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/g-1200x675.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/g-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/g-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/g-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/espores.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/g-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Carob tree<\/strong> is the most esteemed one by the Jard\u00ec Bot\u00e0nic journalist, <a href=\"http:\/\/@mariajpico\"><strong>Maria Josep Pic\u00f3<\/strong><\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jardibotanic.org\/index.php?apid=cataleg_virtual_despecies-220&amp;pid=500\"><em><strong>Ceratonia siliqua<\/strong><\/em>,<\/a> is a Mediterranean icon, typical of dry landscapes.
